Ms. Vangie Caoile is the first President and CEO of Canada Advantage. Raised in a family of educators, she is a by product of quality education from Athabasca University, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and University of the Philippines. Vangie recognized the need for and importance of quality education and affordable training for everyone. Her aspiration to finding ways to bridge students to schools was foundational in her co-founding of Canada Advantage. She’s a big advocate for social justice, quality education, and diversity. She dedicated her time in building community outreach programs and served as member of various Board of Appeals including Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped, Alberta Works and Alberta Health Services. She also owns and manages the first and oldest ethnic newspaper in Calgary, Mabuhay News Calgary and founded the first and largest Asian Festival in Alberta, ‘Fiesta Filipino,’ a non-profit organization with over 500 volunteers.
Mr. Abel Pagaling, the Vice-President of Sales and Marketing of the Canada Advantage, brings with him 20 years of solid experience in leadership roles in the Finance and Insurance sectors. A native of Calgary, he has led multiple teams in the corporate and charitable world. He is also a founder and an initiator of several business organizations and career enhancement groups in Calgary, like the BusinessWise, and the Next Level Coach. For Abel, helping persons reach breakthroughs in their careers is life’s biggest reward. He brings Canada Advantage to a higher level of professionalism and expertise.
Mark Calvelo is Director of Strategic Partnerships. Mark has been in the business industry for over 20 years, particularly in Canada’s real estate industry. His experience, education, upbeat attitude, and determination to find the perfect fit for his current role. He connects with the potential business sector and potential employers of the graduates supported by Canada Advantage. He also builds strategic partnerships with companies for the training and continuing education of their employees. For Mark, “It’s all about touching people’s lives and making a difference.”
Dr. Ernie Alama is the Vice-President of Business Development and Academic. He adds to the pillar of strength of Canada Advantage with his academic training and leadership experience. For Dr. Alama, education powers everyone to success. He has a doctorate degree in Educational Research at the University of Calgary, a master’s degree in Management at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and a certificate in Economic Development from Simon Fraser University. Dr. Alama has concurrent senior leadership roles in various corporations like the Metric and Metrics, Inc. and the College of Researchers for Development Society (CORDS). He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s University.
Rey Fortaleza was an Olympian. And like many Olympians, he works with determination, commitment to the finish line. For Rey, the key success is focusing on goals. He is also the President of ReyFort Publishing & Entertainment, a leading media organization in British Columbia, and a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Award. Rey came on board to Canada Advantage as the Director of Operations in British Columbia. His leadership and experience in business brings Canada Advantage at a competitive edge in Pacific rim of Canada.
Ambassador Julius Torres is a retired Philippine Diplomat with 39 years of distinguished service in the Philippine Foreign Service. He assumed various roles during his stint as a diplomat, such as Assistant Secretary, Ambassador, and Consul General. He has been with Canada Advantage since its early beginnings and is now the Vice-President for International Operations. His advocacy is to assist as many students obtain an education at par with global standards enabling them to compete in the international job market and become empowered citizens contributing to their communities’ progress and development.
